Wedding at Bonnie Glen. • Thii little church at Bonnie Glen, which had been beautifully decorated for tho occasion, was tho sceno of a pretty wedding on April !!!), when Hiss Alary Catlieriuo Simpson, youngest daughter of Jlr. ami Jlrs. R. Iv. Simpson, •'Closobiiim," was married to Mr. Robert Ledlie Gibson, only son of tho late Jlr. Edward Gibson, of Cork; Ireland. Tho Rov, R. M'G'uily, of Turakina, was the officiating clergyman. 'I'ho bride, who was given away by her . father, woro a gown ot white mnoiii over silk; trimmi;<l with beautiful lace, and having panels of rich silk on -tho skirt. Her largo white silk hat was surmounted with lancer plumes, and sho carried a bouquet of w'hito'chrysanthemums, heath, ami asparagus fern, tho gift of hor brother -Mr. (3|;o. ■ A.' Simpson. ' The bridosumids wen Miss Jessio Jl'DonaW (cousin of tho bride), and Miss Kathleen Gibson (sister of tho bridegroom), who woro pnlo pink ninon over apricot silk, trimmed with silver laco. Their black hats .wero trimmed with ostrich ■ feathers, and they carried sprays of autumn leaves and dark red chrysanthemums. , S_lr. Geo. A. Simpson 'acted as _bust man. Tho bridegroom's gift to the brido was a diver fitted dressing bag, and bo tho bridesmaids charming littlo amethyst and pearl brooches. The Wedding March was played by Mr. W. 33. Simpson, of Seafield. Alter tte ceremony a reception was held at "Closeburn," only immeuiato relations and a few friends being present. Tho brido went away in. a navy coat aiul skirt, . and black beaver hat, with palo blue ostrich plumes. . The honeymoon is b;mg spent at Taupo. Wedding at Newtown. A very pretty wedding took -placo on Thursday afternoon at St. James Church, Newtown, when Miss Eleanor Mary Fleming Brown, eldest daughter of Mr. and - Jlrs. James A. Brown,' of this city, was married to Mr. Charles John Pirie, youngest son of tho lato Mr. Charles Pirie, of Dunedin. 'i'ho Rev. W. Shirer performed tho ceremony. Tho brido wore' a pretty Swiss embroidered muslin frock, with a . .long tullo veil, fastened with orang'o blossoms. Sho carried ii bouquet of St. Joseph lilies, and was given away by her. father. Miss Lily Brora, sister of the v. 'bride, was the utloiHluut bricicsmaiu, ana ■ woro a dainty frock of Indian muslin, . with coateo of white embroidery and black satin hat with white ostrich feathers. Her bouquet of scarlet carnations and autumn foliago added a vivid and charming touch of colour to tho littlo bridal group. Jlr. B. 1). Douglas was tho best man. After tho ceremony a reception was held at Godber's rooms by the bride's parents, tho rooms and tho tables- having pretty decorations of red and white. Mrs.' Brown woro a gown of wedgewood bluo, trimmed with Oriental lace', and a black toque trimmed with black and wliito ostrich plumes. .Mr. and Mrs. l'irio left later for Auckland and Rotorua, tho brido travelling in a navy tailored costume and black hat with feathers.' Ball at Government House, Auckland. A second ball wag given at Government House by his Excellency tho Governor and the Countess of Liverpool, tho event taking placo on Wednesday evening. A largo number of guests wero present. Tho ballroom was tastefully decorated, and excellent music was supplied by Adcano's orchestra. Parr) and Miss l'ofjambo, Mr. Nathan and Jlrs. Myers, Lieutenant Boylo ami Jliss Rhodes, Captain Slmwo and Mrs. Nathan, Sir Robert Lockhart, and tho Mnyoress. Dancing was kept up until a lato hour, and a most enjoyable evening was spent by thoso present.
" Obituary. An old colonist in the porson of Mrs, John Shaw died at tho Whiteside private hospital Grey Lynn (Auckland), utter a long illness, at (ho ago of 78 years. The deceased arrived in Auckland in 1855/ accompanied by her husband, Mr. Jas. Slade. In 1801 her husband died, leaving her a widow with throo boys. In 18GU she married Mr. John Shaw, who survives her. They settled on tho land at Plat Bush, and they wero driven from their home by tho Maoris during tho Waikato war. They returned to the land at tho close of tho war, and for n number of years wero fruit-growing at Waikuniete. The deceased leaves 13 children, (19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Miss Stuart Forbes leaves for Nelson on Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Fowler (Nelson) aro expected to arrive in Wellington to-morrow, and will visit friends ill the north. Miss Nora Hawson, ivho lias been staying with relations at Dannevirke, has returned to town for a few days before proceeding to Auckland. • Mrs. Henry Smith and Miss Smith aro visiting Christchurch. Dr. and Mrs. Wilbur Chapman and Mr. Alexander tiro passengers by tho Niagara, which leaves Auckland to-day for Vancouver. Tho annual meeting of the Richmond Free Kindergarten Union will bo held in the Mayor's Hoom at the Town Hull on Wednesday, May 14, at 8 p.m. Tho Mayoress will preside. Tho meeting is open to tho public. Tho death is announced in English papers of Lady Pitman, widow of Sir Isaac Pitman, _ the inventor of phonography, who. died at Hath on Apl'il 2, aged eighty-eight..
