MEAT TRADE REVIEWED.

SPEECH BY MR. T. MACKENZIE. A GOOD FUTURE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. May 8, 10.5 p.m.) London, May 8. The Hon. Thomas Mackenzie, New Zealand High Commissioner, speaking at tho Cold Storage and Ice Association's banquet in response to the toast of "The Dominions," reviewed the history of the meat trado. When tho trado was founded, Mr. Mackenzie said, a whole sheep was sold in New Zealand for the price of a single pound of meat in England. New Zealand had exported half of the total mutton and lamb received in Great Britain. The future for tho producer, ho contended, must be a good one, because the increased demand would exceed tho increased supply. Though tho Home production had increased by 250,000 tons, the workers of Europe would soon demand wholesome l , meat at reasonable prices. Tho condition of the meat on arriving Home had improved, but tho handling in London had not. It was absolutely impossible that tho present conditions should continue.
