TOUR-OF INSPECTION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Ashburton, May 3. ' Tho Minister for Railways (tho HOII.W. E. Hemes) arrived in Ashburton County by spec ; al train this morning, in continuation of liis general tour of inspection, lie traversed the Mount Somcrs branch line in the morning, and Methven lino in tho afternoon, and received deputations at a number of small stations on these and on the main line between Rangitata and Rakaia.' New s : dings and station accommodation were asked for in several places. Christchurch, May i. The Hon. W. H. Hcrrias returned from the south yesterday. To-morixnf ho starts on a tour of inspection of tho lin«s in Canterbury. ,
