DEPUTIES APPOINTED. An important departure which has just been mado in connection with Ike administration of tlio Public Trust Office is the appointment, by the Public Service Commissioner, of Deputy-Public Trustees in tlie three chief centres of the Dominion other than Wellington. _ The innovation is authorised in tlio Public Trust Office Amendment Act of last session, and was introduced as a result of complaints from various places in the Dominion, outside Wellington, that unnecessary delays occurred ill tlio administration of Public Trust business in places away from the capital. Hitherto all transactions have been submitted to tile head ofiieo for approval. Following are the appointments Auckland: Mr. E. S. Warren, who has been district manager in that city for some years, and has a record of 30 years' service in the Public Trust Ollice.

Christchurch: Mr. 6. A. Sniytho. lately appointed district manager 'in Christchurch when Mr. Barnet was appointed inspector. Mr. Smythe joined the Public Trust Office as a cadet, and has a record of about 2t yeai's service. Duncdin: Mr. T. D. Kendall. Mr. Kendall was appointed district manager at Dunedin when. Mr. Moriee, the former occupant of that office, died about nine months ago. Previously Mr. Kendall was district manager at Wellington. These deputies arc to have such functions and powers as may from time to time bo delegated to them by the Public Trustee. The deputies arc to be stationed in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and somo specified town in tho Wellington provincial district. So far as authority is delegated to a Deputy-Public Trustee, all things done or omitted by liiui, arc to have the samo consequence and effect as if they had been douo or omitted by tlio Public Trustee. It is not intended at present to appoint tho fourth DeputyPublic Trustee. It is understood that the appointment I of tho district managers as Deputy Trustees will carry an increase of salary.
