POINT MADE BY LABOUR.
MR. MASSEY FAVOURABLE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 1. Matter of some interest to tho industrial world' was brought before tho I'rimo Minister to-day by a deputation from the Auckland Secretaries' Union, headed by Mr. A. Rosser. Mr. 11. L. Homing said that lie wished to bring under .Mr. Massey's notice the alteration of agreements made in the Conciliation Council when' lliey came before Jlr. Justice Sim in the Arbitration Court. He quoted the case of the Painters' Union which, in the agreement arrived at by the Conciliation Council, had a. clause relating to suburban work fixing the distance limit at one and a half miles. The Judge, he said, without demand from either parly, altered the distance to two miles. The deputation thought that, once an agreement was made in. the Concilia, lion Court, it should not be altered without consultation between the parties conecrucd. Mv. Massey: That is reasonable enough. I am in agreement with what the speaker says, and I shall be pleased to look into the matter. The Prime Minister added that the matters brought under his notice would, ho thought, be satisfactorily settled by a brief Consolidating • Bill. He was strongly of opinion that there were certain difficulties in arbitration matters whiclii wanted clearing up, and if Parliament agreed to what lie was going to propose, the unions could rest assured that these matters would be put right, and I have no reason to doubt but that Parliament will sanction them, concluded the Prime Minister.
