William Smith, bookmaker, of Leeds, for slander in calling plaintiff a blackmailer. Hayes's counsel admitted that his client had been warned oif the racecourses of Tasmania, but had subsequently been reinstated. Smith had employed Hayes as a trainer, but the two quarrelled. A verdict was returned for defendant, while Smith obtained five pounds damages on a counter-charge.
