Annual Report of Wellington Hospital Convalescent Home. The nineteenth' annual report of the Wellington .Hospital Convalescent Home states, inter alia, that the nuuiber of J.atients received during the past, year numbered 112, as against 143 for tho pievious twelve months,' owing to tho tact that the home was for some time closed while extensive repairs and painting were being carried out. Miss Oaklev continues to fill the part of matron, and her management ot .its iuternal affairs has been ■'(cognised a:< an important factor in the cconimiieul conduct of the home. 'Airs. Moorhouso has consented to fill the position of president, in succession to tho laic Mrs. A'swman. Misa A. Pearco is honorary treasurer, and Miss Ethel -\atliau lion, secretary. Mrs.. W. Xoung .was elected a trustee in place of Mrs. \vest-Kuowles, resigned. The truste<!B have placed on record their keen sense of loss through tho death, since their last annual meeting, of their co-trustee and president, Mrs. Newman. Sho was one of the founders of the homo ■nineteen years ago; her interest in it never flagged, and her keen administrative powers wero always at the home's disposal, to its advantage and well-being, and the trustees recognised how much htr business-like qualities and kind services havo been missed by them, the matron, find the hoirie. Her many friends haviiig' expressed tho wish to mark the esteem and affection in which she was held by them, il was suggested that a memorial should, in some form, bo erected to her memory as a loving tribute to her good works. With this object in viewit was decided to build an addition to the home, in the welfare of which she took so great an interest, to be called "The Octaviu Nowman Sun Room." The trustees felt nothing would have afforded he: greater pleasure than to add lo the comfort of Ihe home. It was therefore exceedingly gratifying to the trustees to be in a position to now acknowledge tho liberal donations made for the purpose of carrying thin - abject into effect, tho cost of which has been assured, and a contract entered into to complete tho work. The annual statutory meeting was hclu in tho Chamber of Commcrco on Tuesday, April 1, 1913, and the retiring trustees. Mrs. Litchfield and Miss Coates, wero re-elected.
Tlw trustees desired to acknowledge gifts nindo to tho home during tho past year. Tho,Wellington Hospital Convalescent Home contributed v£2o towards the patients noninate'd by the medical officcr and matron of the hospital, Obituary. On Sunday the death took place at Auckland ol! Mrs. A. M. Mowlem. the wife of Mr. A. M. Mowlem, of Palmerston North, after a long illness. Tho deceased lady, who was well-known not only in Auckland and Palmerston North, but in many other parts of New Zealand, was the only child of the Rev. C. E. Beecroft, a prominent Methodist minister. Por some years the late Mrs. Mowlem resided in Palmerston North, during which time her husband practised his profession as a solicitor. About three years ago a move was made to Auckland, where Mr. Mowlem accepted a partnership in an oldestablished firm, and lie and his wife lived there till the sad event of Sunday occurred. The late Mrs. Mowlem leaves two children—a son aged ten and a daughter aged four.
