GALA DAY AT NAPIER. (Br Teleirrft»l).—Prea« Association.) Napier, April 25. A' great deal of interest is being manifested locally in the visit of tho battlecruiser New Zealand to Napier to-doT. Tho vessel arrived at 7.30 a.m. and subsequently an official visit of welcome was paid by the Mayor (Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P.), and Mr. A. E. Jull, chairman of tho Harbour Board, who were received on board by Captain Ilalscy. Later in tho day Captain Hnlsey and officers wero tho guests of the Mayor and councillors at hmcheon at tho Masonic Hotel. After-, wards Captain lialsey and two of his officers visited tho golf links, tlio remainder going to the Arataki Experiment Farm.' Alxnit 250 of the men came ashore about mid-day and marched through the town and lo the Garrison Hall where they wero entertained at lunch. A varied sports gathering was held on tho Marine Parade and games of Rugby and "soccer" football wero played against local lads. Tho visiting sailors wero later entertained at tea in tho Garrison Hall. In tho evening the men attended a complimentary concert given in their honour in the. Municipal Theatre, some of them contributing to tho programme. Tho town is thronged with visitoro and during tho day thousands of school children from town and surrounding country districts visit&i tho vessel whicn. lay in tho roadstead. Tho Government steamer Tutnnekai and local vessels convoyed the children and adults to tho warship.
