EXPORTING CHEESE.

THE CONSIGNMENT QUESTION. With the big dairv association- meetings within hailing distance, t.hero will, no doubt, bo full discussions before long on the question of the best method of disposing of tin? cliee:c exported. In the meantime n few remarks made by M.r. J. A. Ruddick, Canadian Dairy Commissioner,. may bo pondered over by factory directors. Mr. Ruddick recently said:— "Of course, I must, bo considered a. good deal of an amateur on this phaso of tho situation, but it would appear to me that the announcement to tho effect that practically tho whole of ihe New Zealand outputs for 1012-13 are to ba shipped on open consignment must have had a 'bearish' effect on tlio market. Tho knowledge that this largo quantity of butter and cheese will bo coming forward by sale during the winter months would naturally give the British' merchant a feeling of easiness in tho matter of obtaining his requirements. Last year tho position was reversed, and nearly all the Now Zealand factories, contracted their outputs at the beginning of tho season, <r, say, during tlio months of .September and October. This weak feature of the market at tho present moment wall probably have disappeared bv the time our now season begins, and 011 the wholo 1 think we can safely say that the outlook for prices is good."
