WHAT NOT TO SHOOT. As there appears to be a general impression in tho publio mind that tho forthcoming game-shooting'season in the Wellington Acclimatisation. .Society's district will bo an open one for all kinds of game, tho secretary or tho society states that , the position in liis society's district is as follows:—Cook pheasants, quail, and hares may be shot by anyouo holding a one pound license, from May 1 to July 31, 19W. Wild duck and swanmay be shot from June 2 to Julio 30, 1913, without a license, Fivkeko may only bo shot from June 2 to Jun« 30, 1913, in a special area at Foxton and Shannon proclaimed for the purpose. Pulceko may not be shot anywhero in tho Wairarapu district.. Pigeons are absolutely protected throughout tho whole district.
Ownors of land may only sltoot wild duck and swan on their own property from June 2 to June 30, 1913. The season of 1913 is a closo season under tho Act, and the Government lias grouted tiio abovo concessions on petition from the local society.
The council of the Wellington Society intends to prosecute all porsoiis fonnil shooting native game in May or July, either on- their own property or on that of other people.
By a notice in this week's -Gazette an, open seaso.i from May 1 to July 31 is proclaimed for pukcko, teal, grey {fuck, spoonbill duck, block,siran, and wild geese. Tlio notice concHlcs: "Provided, how-eve, that tho said birds shall not bo taken or killed except in such distriits and on such conditions as may bo notified by the Governor."
