TREE-PLANTING FOR INVALIDS
AN OCCUPATION FOR CONSUMPTIVES. (By Telegraph,—Prosa Association ) Auckland, April 2t. An interesting point in the evident* given before the Forestry Commission was a suggestion made by Dr. Makgill regarding the suitability of tree-planting as work for convalescent consumptives. Dr. Makgill said that in 19US u trial of tlio system had been made in a small way eight miles from liotorua. A camp of It men carried on tlio work with reasonable success.' Tree-planting was work suitable for consumptives, but .the trial was given up in tho middlo of 1310, ns the walk to and from planting became rather long, for semi-invalids.
Dr. Makgill added that ho thought it would be quite possible to establish a cninp of 00 men in Tanpo district to undertako such work. It was very difficult to get consumptives in sanatoria to work, and it was in many eases better for the patient's treatment to persuade him to work from the first. Dr. Makgill said that on any of the light pumico lauds there was an opportunity of starting tre«planting if the districts themselves wanted it, and the conditions suited the patients.
