FOILED BY THE SAFE.
BURGLAR GANG DECAMPS. . (By Telegraph —Special Correspondent) Hastings, April 21. A daring but, fortunately, unsuccessful burglary was .attempted on tho drapery S remises' of Messrs. Maddison and Co'., tastings, either 011 Saturday or Sunday night. Tho burglars broke in through a bolted door at tho rear of the establishment, and, making their way to tho officc at the rear of the shop, commenced opera' tions to break open tho safe in which there was a considerable sum of money (nearly_ <£200) after Saturday's business, fhey piled up silks and other dress stuffs round tho safe, and. having lit a fuse, proceeded to blow- open tho lock. Tho safe, however, defied all their efforts, and they, had only succeeded in forcing the door about'an inch when they abandoned their project for somo reason, and made their exit without being caught.
