Matters in connection with tho appointment of professors to fill the positions soon to be vacated by Professors' A. P. W. Thomas and 11.I 1 . D. Brown were beforo tho University College Council to-day. The CDinniitteo appointed to deal with liio matter put various suggestions before tho meeting, and it was ultimately agreed: (1) That the Council of tlio Auckland University Collego request the Government to give it the benefit of tlio services of the High Commissioner in London in inviting applications for threo positions ot Professors of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology at salaries of ,£7OO per annum for three years, terminable at 12 months' notice from cither side. (2) That tho Government bo also requested to invito Parliament to grant an additional ,£IOOO per annum to tlio .college to meet additional expenses, including tho employment of a lecturer in geology at £350 per anntom, (3) That ull advertisement for three new professors bo published in tlio months of L»}-, August, and September., ft) That (ho Council bo authorised to coiupiunicate direct with tho High Commissioner oi\ tlio (subject. (0) That tho High Commissioner, in recommending throe professors lor appointment be instructed lo associate with himself Jtr. W.
