RESULT OF MENTAL WORRY. (By Tclecraph.—Prtea Association.) Christchurch, April 21. John Hitchcock, the man who mode a murderous attack on his sister at Graham Valley, Akaroa, yesterday, and then attempted to commit suicide, is now in the hospital. He js conscious and is progressing favourably in police custody. Hitchcock shows no disinclination to answer questions put to him concerning tho assault. He is ablo to give a colicrcnt report of the circumstances as they happened. Whon asked what impelled him to commit the assault he stated that ho had been worried in his business for soma time and that ho had boon unablo to sleep. He set out for a walk with his sister with 110 intention of attacking her —it camo to him suddenly, and without ally premeditation. . Upon his recovery Hitchcock will bo proceeded against by tho polico for his action. He is a cabinetmaker by trado and comes from Dunedin. Ho had been mentally depressed before ho camo to Akaroa and was spending a holiday there in tho hope that 110 would recover his normal condition.

Miss Hitchcock is suffering from shock, but hei - wounds aro not berious. Her brother attacked her first with a stone in. a handkerchief and then drew o razor.
