One of tlio engine-drivers of tho Wol» lington-Taranaki express stated at a coroner's inquiry to-day that • motor traflio was tho greatest "hurdle" which the en-gine-drivers of this train had to faco. This was'particularly so on the FeildingPalincrston scction, where he had seen sonio of tho most daring tricks imaginable performed. It was not unusual, ho said, to see motorists attempt to riico tho train when tho road was running parallel with tho railway track and then to cross over in front of the engine when then was not two feet to spare.
