THOSE DANNEVIRKE SCENES
REPORT ADMITTED TO BE TRUE. (By Telegraph.—Prous Association.) Danncvirke, April 18. Regarding tho Territorial disturbance - at Dannevirko on Tuesday, Colonel Tate, officer in chargo at Oringi cump, explained that, boloru any press report had been seen by him, a telegram was received from the "Wairarapa Daily Times," asking whether certain sensational reports current in Masterton were true. These reports, ho adds, were exaggerated, and a telegraphic reply was sunt to the paper's inquiry as wired out from Masterton. This reply was based on. reports trom the •brigade pickets. * Colonel Tate- further says that the Press , Association telegram of April l(i was quite reasonable and lair, and no utlempl is made to discount it or anything that was believed to be true. The occurrence was a most regrettable one, and he hoped that, tho brigade would, before tho end of tho camp, retrieve its reputation with the Dannevirko public. On Sunday he proposed to march tho brigado through Danncvirke. NO WANGANUI MEN IN IT. Wanganui, April 18. In connection with the misbehaviour of certain Territorials at Danucvirko on Tuesday _ night the Wanganui men, who arc putting in their extra four days, have written to tho local press asking that it bo made known for the honour of tneir officers vand their regiment' (7th infantry) that "no member of any Wanganui company took any part whatever in such disgraceful proceedings."
