DIED AT HIS POST.
A VETERAN LIGHTHOUSEKEEPER, (By Telegraph—Pre6s Association.) Christchurch, April 17. A sad death occurred at Godloy's Head lighthouse about G o'clock tills morning, when David Partington, head lighthousekeeper, passed peacefully away just at the conclusion ot his morning watch. Mr. Partington has been for some litno past suffering from heart trouble, and ho had been advised by Dr. Newoll, of Lytlolton, to take a. complete rest, and he had arranged lor his relief, in company with his brother, who is-a warder in Lyttelton Gaol. Ho was seated in the lighthouse early this morning waiting for sunrise before extinguishing the light, when, without warning and Quito peacefully, he suddenly expired. Mr. Partington, who was about 55 years of age, leaves a widow and one son and iv daughter, lie was ono of the oldest keepers in tho lightliouso service, and had been stationed at numerous lighthouses, including Puyscgur Point, Akaroa Head, and Nugget Point, being 'transferred from tljj last-mentioned placo about eighteen months ago.
