THE CITY WATER.
AND ITS NASTY TASTE. Sonic complaints luivo been made recently, and not without reason, as to tho unpleasant taste of the city water. A Dominion reporter mentioned (ho matter to the City Engineer yesterday. Mr. Morton said that there hnd been sonic ground for complaint, but the water had improved very much since the recent rain. The trouble was one that was common to all gravitation water supplies, whero big reservoirs were needed. Tlio peculiar llavour was really caused by minute vegetable organisms in the water,, and they could not bo prevented from growing there from time to time. Thero were certain recognised methods of remedying (he trouble, fame of which he had used. The most effective was to put copper sulphate into the water, but this was « remedy he hesitated to use owing to the fact that it might give rise to alarm. He had therefore refrained from using it. Ho had vised other chemical methods, and he had also done all he could to ensure that all the water in the reservoir had been completely changed, tie. added that the water, although unpleasant to the taste, was not unwholesome. All trace of the foreign llavour should, ho thought, disappear in a day or two.
