Morton) to confer with tho Publio Works Department with a view to altering tho regulation in the direction of naming the maximum number to bo carried in each compartment of tho oars engaged in tho Brooklyn service. Tho final result is that tho City Engineer was instructed by* the Minister for Publio Works yesterday morning to draft a regulation providing that liot moro than ten passengers be carried in. any ono cotu« partincnt on a car. This, tlio Mayor considers, should bo satisfactory to residents, and also to tho tramway conductors as it fixes a definite number for each compartment for tho hill journey. Under instruction from the Mayor the provision of the new regulation was put in operation yesterday afternoon. Yesterday morning, Councillor _ Frost gavo notico cf tho following motion to be considered at Thursday's meeting of tho City Council:—"That in order to prevent tho indignities npw imposed by certain cqnductors on the passenger travelling on the Brooklyn cars (when seated) bv being turned out, a spbeial inspector ho placed on tuty to decide as to when ii car is fully loaded to comply with tho Government regulations." .Subsequently, in view of the decision como to by tlio Public Works DepnrU ment, Councillor Frost ran'cellcd hi/* notico of motion.
