TO BIG CONSUMERS ONL¥.
Tho Wellington Gas Company has r«» vised tho scnlo of discounts to largo consumers of gas. The, company has felt for some timo that tho heavier consumers should reap tho commercial advantages usually accorded to tho bustomer who takes the quantity, hence tho new discount's, which came into operation on April 1. There are two classes of consumers dealt with, viz., (1) gas-engine con- ] sutners, and (2) restaurants and manufac-, turers. Tho former had a discount rato' ranging from 2s. Td. per 1.000 feet consumption to 2s. lid. per 10,000 feet and over; under tho new scale these discounts will range from 2s. 7d. per 1000 feet to 3s. Id. (as against 2s. lid.) per 45,000 feet and over. In. other words, tho consumer of 48,000 fcot, costing ,£lB, would have received £7 in discount, bringing his bill down to .£11; uiijor tho new scalo his discount is .£B, bringing his net prico down ■to '.£lO. With regard to restaurants and manufacturers, there was formerly a flat rate of discount of 2s. Gd. per. 1000; but under tho re-arrangement > now in forca tho rato of discount will risij from 2s. 7d> per 1000 feet for'lo,ooo feet, to 2s. lid. per 1000 for 50,000 feet and over, A case in point is that of a local firm of restauranteurs whose monthly bill under tho old rato was ,£29 125., but for a like quantity of gas consumed tlie bill will bo £27 3s. 10d., a saving per month of £.1 Bs. 2d. . Private lighting consumers' discount/' remain as at present.
