"This action," Mid his Worship, "arises out of one of those extraordinary transactions known as an exchange of property. • As is well-known, such transactions lend themselves, in tho hands of parties who are none too particular, to methods of dealing peculiarly their own." 'The exchango transaction concerned the 3584 acres of swamp land in tho Wailcato and land owned by Messrs. Kec'ne and Reid at Island Bay, "Wellington. .Judgment was'entered for the plaintiffs lor tho amount claimed, with costs. At the hearing of the case Mr. 0. Beero appeared for tho plaintiff, and Mr. A. Gray for the defendant. ACCOUNTANT'S CLAIM. Fleming Ross,, accountant, Wellington, claimed JCB fro/.i G. Wilkins, motor engineer. Plaintiff conducted his case, and Air. P. W. Jackson appeared for the defendant. Judgment was for the plaintiff for £i. ; v POSSESSION OF TENEMENT. Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd., Wellington, claimed, to recover .from F; Gormley, oi 91 Daniel Street, Wellington, .possession of No. 11 King's Chambers, VVilleston Street, Wellington. Alfred Bradley was ordered to pay tho Stewart Timber, Glass, and Hardware Co., Ltd., lis; 6d, by April 29; and Barry Goring to pay W. J. Harris 3s. by April -29. THE SMASH-TJF. . William' John Anderson, a .driver, .of. Constable Street)' Wellington, sued the Wellington Gas Co., Ltd., for £11 14s. 6d., as damage dono to a gig through the alleged negligence of ono of tho defendant's employees, who was in charge of a steamdriven vehicle. Tho plaintiff stated that lie was-driv-ing Dr. Perkins down Crawford Terrace, and tho "steamer" was ahead of . them. The' driver rang tho gong, and ' the "steamer" pulled off to the left, but just as the gig was,about to pass it it turned to the right, and causcd tho 1 gig, to collido with a post, through which it got damaged.' '■ • Mr. Neave stated that the defence was to the effect that the fault lay, with the plaintiff Anderson for trying to pass the wagon on such a road. Thero was a steep declivity on' one side, and a high bank on tho other, so Anderson' should havo remained behind the wagon till tho bottom of the hill'was reached. Judgment was reserved. SIX SHILLINGS DAMAGES. In the case 'in which Albert Martin, artificer, Wellington, claimed <£15 18s. from R. G. Etchells, poultry farmer, Lower Hutt,_ as damages for failure to keep a farm m good order and repair, Mr. Riifdcll gave judgment for 65., with co"ts 83. - POLICE BUSINESS. (Before Mr, W, G. Riddell, S.M.) Nora Nugenfs 129t1i conviction'wasicntered when she pleaded guilty to a charge of insobriety. She was fined w£l and prohibited. Mary Johnson was fined ss. for insobriety. Jean Leahy and Margaret M'Hugh", who were asserted to be common prostitutes, were aocused of having loitered in Taranaki Street for certain purposes. They were each sent to prison for oho month.
