4— ■ ' ' I A meeting of the-iEastbonrhe Borough Council was held on Friday evening.. There wero present:—The Mayor (Mr. H.' VV. Shortt), Councillors Button, Organ, Pilclier, Ross, Wills, Russell, Harcourt, nnd Morris. Mr. R. B. Williams, representing Miss Earp-Thomas, wrote requesting the council to remove a mound of sand and form a street, requiring the erection of a closeboarded fence to prevent sanddrift and to turf a side street, also to remove a bathing shed. Misfeasance was also alleged. The letter was received, the council admitting no liability. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board rate was discussed, and dissatisfaction was expressed at the amount of tho levy and its tendency to increase. It was also stated by several councillors jthat there ivas a large' unnecessary expenditure. on (3io part of the boai'd, and that great economies could bo effected. A vote of appreciation of the Mayor's nork during the past two years, and of regret that lie did not intend to stand for election again, was passed with acclamation, on the motion of Councillor Harcourt. Appreciative reference was mado to the work of the Town Cleric (llr. J. D. Avery). Tho Mayor and Town Clerk replied. v After the meeting the Mayor entertained the councillors.
