4 l r FOUND DROWNED. At. the'' Magistrate's Court on Saturday mnrnijifj the City Coroner (Dr. A. M'ArIhur, S.M.) held an inquiry into iho cir'rinnslaijces surrounding tho death nf Kobort. M'Laren, whoso body was found in the harbour on Thursday last'. The derciiied was a. nativo of Victoria. ilo was a bootmaker by occupation, a single mail, about 4(> years of age. Senior-Ser-geant. Mnllaney represented tho police at the inquest. Evidence was given -by deceased's brother to tho ell cot that, on April 8, when witness last saw his brother, (he latter was suffering from the efl'ools of drink, and seemed in n. nervous state, as if he hnd not been taking his meals. Joseph S. M'CVinkcy, proprietor of tlio Queen's Hotel, stated that deceased camo io tilg hotel on April 8, and on that afternoon witness procured him some medicine from the chemist, and administered dose's at 4 p.m. and twice later. About 10.30 p.m. deceased was missing froin hie room. Other evidenco was given as to tho finding of the body, and a verdict of "Found drowned" was returned. GLAZIER INJURED. Whilst engaged in glazier's work at the Cudby liridger hardware store, Lower Hutt, a young roan named Frank Martin suffered an injury to a leg. Dr. Purdy was summoned, and the injured man was conveyed to his home n .Wellington. DEATH OF NEIL LINDSAY. An' inquest regarding the death of Neil Lindsay, a wharf labourer, was held lielore Dr. M'Arthur at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. Evidence was given by Dr. P. R. Woodhouse, acting-superintondent of tho Wellington Hospital.' He stated that deceased was reported to havo fallen from a window, but beyond somo bruises thero was no evidence to that cfi'ect. A postmortem examination showed that deceased had been suffering from peritonitis. * Dr. W. Young stated that ho had nt- : tended Lindsay at the Otago Buffet on April 4. ■ Tho patient was in a stupid condition, and was smelling of alcohol. On Saturday, as the patient was in considerable pain, he gave an order for his removal to tho Hospital. Ho was' told that decoased had had a fall, but did not consider his condition serious. Alfred Martin, kitchenman "at " tlie Otago Butfct, stated that ho had heard a scream, and .had found deceased lying on tho concreto below a window. ' Ho did not know how tho accident had happened. ....... Herbert L. Jones corroborated tho evidence of the previous witness. A verdict was returned that deceased had died from peritonitis, accelerated by a fall, no evidence being forthcoming as to how tho accident happened. OTAGO FATALITIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Duncdin, April 12. George Sutherland, fanner, Matakanui, who was blown off a haystack yesterday, died to-day. John Espie, labourer,: was found dead in his l>ed at ICaitangata this morning. Death is supposed to have been caused by heart failure. NYDIA BAY FATALITY. Blenheim, April 12. John Murray, aged about : 2B years, supnosed to bo a recent a nival from Scotland, dropped dead yesterday at, Craig's sawmills, Nydiai Bay. ' FALLS DOWN SHIP'S HOLD. Timaru, April 13. A.waterside worker named C. Iting met with an accident on tho steamer ICaituna while the men wero removing tlio hatches. Tho midships hatch is a large ono divided into, three by deep cross-girders, on whioli rest tho hatch .planks. One set' had been removed, except the centro cross-beam, and when this was removed the girder sprung, and all tho next 6et of hatch planks, and King stonding on them, fell in a heap into tho hold, fifteen or twenty feet. King was cut about the head and bruised. Ho had a narrow . escapo from being killed. , FOUND DEAD ON THE BEACH. Dunodin, April 13. ' George Allen, an insurance agent, was found dead toiay on the beach at St. Clair, high up among iho lupins. He had apparently died on either Friday' afternoon or Friday evening. He had been suffering for somo time, fromßright's diseaso and enlarged heart and liver.
