(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. H. "\V. Northcroft arrived by the Moana and at once took up his official duties as Resident Commissioner, and Judge of the High Court. Great satisfaction is expressed among both Natives and Europeans.that tho New Zealand Government has 'been\able to secure the services of a gentleman so well fitted for the position. , Mr. Northcoto was accompanied by Mr. Ralfe, late of tho Justice Department, Auckland, who has assumed the duties of Registrar of tho High Court, lately carried out by Mr. E. Blaine, who has retired from tho position, after eleven •years' service, and is proceeding to Wellington by tho Moana on her return from San Francisco.- t

Mr. Gordon Esam leaves to take up Departmental duties in Now Zealand, on the arrival of Air. Reid, who relieves him as fruit inspector, early next month. Dr. C. N. Dawson will leave _by tho Taluno on her return from Tahiti, about MArch 27, and lie expects to bo away on a holiday trip for about three months. A movement' has been made with - tho object of having another medical man appointed to the Government Staff. A doputation, representing thoso who have been and still are supporters of Dr. Daweon, and wlio are desirous of retaining his services, waited on the Resident Commissioner to put tho matter beforo liim, and to noint out that tho nfeds of .the Natives "in tho outer islands call for medical attention.. 'The' Resident Commissioner pointed out that there were many things to be considered, in a matter of this kind, but consented to communicate with the Now Zealand authorities and laybefore them the remarks of tho deputation. and' the documents that lliey have supplied to him. Meetings of Natives Ijave been bold,' and they have also expressed a desire that some measures should be-taken to<rctnin the services of Dr. Dawson in a professional capacity, and it is -understood, til alt their representations will alra be brought to the notice of tho New Zealand Government. ' Mr. W. R. Reynolds returned to Rarotonga by the Moana, and is now managing a plantation on behalf of Mr. C. A. 'Griffiths, fruit merchant, of Wellington.
