CARNIVAL FUNDS.

. THE ALLOCATION. ' POSITION VAGUE AT PRESENT, As many suggestions have already Ijeon made as to how tho Citizens' Carnival l'und should bo allocated, the question arises as to who will decido tho manner in which the money will be expended. A reporter saw the Jlayor (Mr. i). M'Laren) 011 the subject yesterday, and was informed that the manner in which tlio money will bo expended will be decided by the City Council in conference with the members of the executive committee of the Citizens' Carnival, it is suggested that Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton) should also be allowed a voice in the matter.

PIPTH CARNIVAL EFFORT. The fifth effort in connection with the Citizens' Carnival will take the form of a concert, which will be held in the Town Hall to-morrow evening at 8 o'clock. An energetic committee, of which. Mr. Jas. Dykes and Mr. R. A. Keenan are chairman and secretary respectively, have been busily-engaged for some time past arranging the programme. They have succeeded in securing the services of tho majority of . the city's leading artists, who have generously given their services to' the committee. The Post and Telegraph Choir, which is under the conductorship of Mr. P. V. Waters, will contribute "The Soldiers' Chorus", and

"Comrades in Arms." The popular favourite, Mr. Hamilton Hodges, who ranks among the foremost -throughout,the Do-, minion, will sing "The AVandering Jew;." Other items will be rendered by Miss Phoebe Parsons, A.R.C.M., Miss Eileen Driscoll, Miss Muriel Bennett, Mrs. Rodgers, Messrs. S. N. Hutton, W. Caton, H. N. Fletcher, Stanley Rankm, E. .Hill, R. S. Allwright, H. Pliipps. Tho Orpheus Quartet party will sing "Good-night, Beloved," and also "Drink to me only with thine Eyes." There will also be a number of Highland dances. ' Mrs. Queree has consented to act as accompanist for the evening. * . It was also decided to have the drawing of the Art Union at' this function, but there aro a number of books still outstanding which the Art Union Committee hope will be returned at once.
