. BOARDING CAll IN MOTION. Yesterday afternoon a car bearing tluj\ Tinakori Koad destination mark (No. G8) was" proceeding slowly along Manners Street when a middle-aged ljntin, named I l '. J. Devini:, made mi unsuccessful attempt to board it. It seems IhutOcrino missed ins footiitg, and fell backwards on to the road, and then 'rolled towards the moving ear. The car was at once brought to 1 a standstill, and thus avoided more serious consequences. Dr. Pattie, who happened to bo near at. tile time, attended the injured man, who was removed to tlio shop of Mr. Briltain, chemist, whero it was found that lie had sustained, n out on the back of tho head, and was also suffering from shock. After attention tlie 'njured man was able to proceed to bis home.
BODY IN THE HARBOUR. An inquest was held by Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., jesterday, touching tho death of James Doclierty (formerly reported as James Gavaghau), whose body was found in the harbour on Sunday morning. Evidence was given to the effect that Gavaghan was a fireman 011 tho steamer Wairuna,|and .that ho had been paid off on March 15 and bad booked a passage by th 6 Mararoa to Lyttelton. Gavughan was last seen on bis way from tho \Yairuna, which was lydug at tho Railway Wharf, to board tlio Mararoa at tlio Queen's Wharf. Tho verdict was "found drowned."
FOUND, DEAD. A man named Jolm ,Samuel Hammond was found dead 111 bed in his room in Cuba Street shortly Wore noon yesterday. Deceased was a tramway pointsman, and for.somo weeks recently lie was under 'treatment 111 the Hospital. Yesterday morning 'William Moore, a friend of the deceased, went to Hammond's room to seo him, and found him dead. Hammond was at work on -Monday from 11 Urt a.m. until 9 p.m., mid when ho went oft' duty ho was so ill that lie had to be assisted to his room. Dentil is supposed to bnvo been duo to heart strain. The doctor who attended deceased is understood to be prnpared to certify to this effect, and no inquest will bo held - TRAP ACCIDENT. (By Telegraph —Prers Association.) 1 Wanganui, March 23. While a trap was being driven down the Avenue to-day, the horse stumbled, and the occupants of the trap, Sirs. J. ami .Miss Paul, wero thrown out on to the roadway, Each sustained a broken wrist, iamong other injuries. SUICIDE. Auckland, March 25.
