On Monday afternoon, at (ho Carterton Suimming Baths, the local life-savin); class, under Instructor Bowen, were examined by Dr. Gunn (Carterton), and Mr. It. Jackson, bronze medallist (Keathcrslon). The following passed the proficiency and bronze medallion examinations for life-saving: J. B. Lawrence, F. A. Deller, A. itaas, F. E. Tyler, A. J. Pauion, W. .Sorensen, .M. Bish, 11. L. Wilson, and C'. Douinnl. Mr. 11. Eowen, instructor, also passed the lion, instructors' examination with honours. Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., have accepted a challenge from Fernleaf Lodge, Greylown, to play a crickdt match at Carterton ou Good Friday. General Godloy will visit Carterton 011 Wednesday evening, awl will inspect the cadets. The general will arrive in Carterton five ofclock, ami will bo entertained at dimur at the Marquis Hotel by citizens interested in the Territorial movement. FEATHERSTON. The lately-formed Wairarapa Automobile Association has circularised several county councils in the-Wellington Province suggesting that the broken por-i itions cf the Eimuiaka Road fee asiialted, and offering a contribution el' .CIO towards the cost of such work, with the promise of further financial assistance from private sources. Councillor A. M. Oii!?l?y, tho well-known cricketer and footballer, will also contest the Mayoralty. Pandon Methodists arc celebrating the 38th anniversary of the opening of (heir church next Friday, with special meetings. 'Tile office-bearers of St. Paul's Church have accepted tho tender of Mr. It. Jleald for tho erection of a new two-storied manse in Grey Street. Feilding has scored another win in the athletic field. Tli/o team of Senior Cadets from here who competed at the Tailiape Hibernian sporfe have won the championship banner for physical drill, against the Territorials. In handing out tho prizes, Father Collins urged members of tho unsuccessful foams to studv the methods of the Feildinsr lads, and to realise that a physical drill comnetition was also a very popular event at sports.
