THE TRADE COMMISSION.
VISIT TO WEREROA FARM. Some 'of tlio members of the Trade of Empire Commission visited the State Farm at Wereroa, Levin, on Saturday. The members of tlio Commission who made the trip were Sir H. Rider Haggard, Mr. T. Garnctt, Mr. Tatlow, and Mr. Campbell. Accompanying them were Mr, J. Hislop (Secretary for Internal Affairs),v. Mr. E. Cliftou (of the Agricultural Department), Mr. J. Harding (Secretary for the Commission), Mr. A. L. Mabiii (chairman of the Chamber of Commerce), and several prominent business men of Wel« lington, members of tlio chamber. They were met on arrival at Levin by the member for the district, Mr. J. Robertson, and at the farm they were welcomed by a number of representative farmers of the district. The party lunched at the farm, and afterwards looked over the stock and other interesting features of the institution. Later in the afternoon they were taken for a motor drive into the surrounding country, visiting, a dairy factory by the way. The visitors wero keenly interested, and npparcntlv the outing was to them a most enjo,yaule one. . • _ ' , Discussing the trip with a Dominion representative yesterday, Sir Rider Hoggard said thai the visit to the farm had been intensely interesting jto him. Ho would pass no opinion on anything he had observed, except this —that- the Holstem cattle at the farm were amongst the best., he had ever seen. Ho thought, they should prove of very great value to the flocks of the country. The Commission will sit at 10 o clock this morning, when representatives of tlio Wellington iimployers Association will give evidence. Mr. Parry will givo evidence on the hydro-elcctnc water power scheme of the Dominion, and cvidcnco on matters relating to agriculture will bo given by Mr. Clifton, of the Agricultural Department. . , On Tucsdav the Commission will resume its sitting in the morning, when Mr. Wilson, president of the New, Farmers' Union, and represents ivo of ilia Wellington District Union, will ow(1 The Commission is to leave Wellington by tho second express on Tuesday for Auckiand. ___________
