* SKIING AT MOUNT COOK. Christchurch, March G. Lieut Gran,.of'the British Antarctio Expedition,. who, 011 the 21st nit., with Guides l'cter Graham and' Milne, scaled Mount Cook in the shortest time jet recorded—H hours 30 minutes—informed an interviewer''.that one of the objects of his visit was to ascertain prospects of introducing the sport of skiing at Mount Cook, and ho found that round about l'Mirlio and towards Mount Cook the. con* ditions worn splendid.- He described the hills as "absolutely perfect for skiing." "Now, 1 as the natural conditions are eo good it simply becomes a question as to whether sufficient snow can bo obtained at the best spots," continued Lieut. Gran, "but I am satisfied the country is quite suitable. Of course skiing would not be possible in summer, but in winter I think the prospects for introducing thp sport aro very good indeed, and when tho new hermitage at Mount Cook is completed, inducement should be offered to lovers of mountain regions to go in for skiing." Lieut. Gran expressed the hope that the New Zealand Government would do something to pneourage the sport at Mount Cook. He went 0.11 to say that neur the Hermitage there is an excellent "lumping hill" providing a fine drop of about 30 degrees which could- bp perfect* ed at a very small cost. .
