DOMINION SCOUTS.
ISLAND BAY FIFE TROOP. (By Scoutmaster Myers.) For some reason, not yet clearly ascertained, when the scoutmasters set hbout organising 'this troop it was found that "scouting was not in very high repute amongst tho lnds whom they approaclied. For that reason the plan of forming, a Boy Scout Drum and Fife Band was adopted. The idea proved attractive, and the baud -was quickly formed. Now, witli the exception of seroii or eight members, 'music takes .quite a secondary place, 'and "scouting" is first in favour. Host Of the lads are through their "tenderfoot" stage, mid are looking anxiously for an opportunity to become second-class scouts. A'earnp at Wainui-o-mata at New Year, though somewhat spoiled by rain, did much to promote 'enthusiasm for the actual movement: Now wo are looking forward to a time of; liseful activity in connection with the Citizens' Carnival at Easter; and the whole of our experience goes to show that if scouts are kept usefully employed, always with something to look forward to, tlio interest will be maintained and the movement will flourish. .
