THE TOMATO BLIGHT.
: EXPERIMENTS AT THE HUTT. The experiments in fighting the tomato blight, which are being carricd out at the Lower Hutt by the Department of Agriculture in .co-operation with tho Hutt Tomato Growers' Association, liavo been so arranged that tho experiments aro opan to visitors each alternate Saturday. The' experiments aro being conducted on the property of Mr. Hobbs, Main Road, Lower Hutt, and Mr. Brassell, another well-known Hutt grower. Next Saturday is visitors' day, and those' interested in the' experiments . will bo welcomed. Officers of the Agricultural Department will bo .present. At tho last visitors' day, a special demonstration in the most up-to-date methods of spraying was given by Mr. Webb, Horticultural Instructor • for the District. One portion of tho co-operative experiment conducted in Cliristehurch has been completed, and the results aro said to have demonstrated that the methods advocated by the Department aro highly satisfactory. The owner of the tomato house in' which the experiments wero carried out states that he gathered a bigger crop than lie lias had for a number of: years. Tho crop was particularly good compared with outers grown in tho vicinity and treated by tho usual method. The work in another house retained purely for experimental work had not yet been completed, and will not be through until tho end of tho month.
