NOTES AND COMMENTS.

• [By Glejjcok.] ; 'The well-known Riingitikei breeder, Mr. ■Donald Eraser, is at present on a business visit to Wellington. Crown Pearl was taken to Danncvirlte oil Monday, and .is to bo a runner in tho lamafci Welter Handicap to-day. Ho is to be riddou by A. Oliver. J. Cameron has -decided that the only way to get Ecloguo to stand ti preparation is to' give him swimming exercise, and, ivijthh this end in. view, tho old gelding will bo sent to i'oxton this week. The accident which befell Nukuatu ill the Farewell Handicap at Wanganui was caused, so it is said, by the Advance gelding patting his foot- in some false going, which caused him to stumble. In recovering himself his off foreleg snapped. Word comes from tho south, that tho jumpers Lugcon' (by Lupin) and Ngawera nave been sold to a Melbourno buyer. The progeny of ;Eduam, dam of Labour Day, sold well at Wanganui last week. A foal by Elevation brought 50 guineas, and a two-year-old gelding by Maniopoto .went for 220 guineas. The lnst-named has gone to M. Gardiner's stables at Waverley. At tho same sale .Mr. G. l'\ Moore's brood mare Polycasto was sold for 27 guineas. The Chokebore jockey, C. Emerson, earned'. ,£SO in riding fees at tho Wanganui Cup meeting, where ho 6teered Uvo winners.

If Vi (7st.) starts in the Dannevirke Cup to-day a very fast run raco may be expected. Tho Merriweo mare showed winning form yt Gisborno last month, and

sho won the big handicap on the second day, and, in the opinion of many, sho should have scored on tho first day.

The brilliant Hawera two-yoar-old Astoi- is to bo ridden by C. Emerson in the Nursery Handicap at Dannevirke to-day. J. Hennah, wno recently purchased Tho Great Mogul from Mr. T. H. Lowry, will start tho big. gelding for tlio first time in tho Trial Stakes to-day. Like: tho rest of the samo family, The Great Mogul seema ablo to go very fast over a short course.

Tho Advancer—Brown Spec liorso Postillion ran himself out of hacks/at tho Wanganui meeting, and will now have to race in open company. Probably- his next appearance will be at Feilding at Easter.

The two-year-old filly Quair Burn, who finished second to Eubulus in the Victoria Racing Club's Sires' Produce Stakes on Saturday, again occupied .that position yesterday- behind Andelosia in the Ascot Stakes. She has hnd a very unlucky record at tho autumn meetings, so far as _they have progressed. At the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's fixture last month she twice finished in a place in an important event.

Yankee Doodle and No Idea, who figure in the list of entries for the Trial Stakes at Dannevirke to-day, will not- be eligible to start, 03 they havo won a race each. The former scored at New Plymouth Jast month, and No Idea was successful its' the Scurry at Woodville. ■ •

With Expect (9st.), Multiply (Bst. 131b.), and, Heather (Bst. 131b.) engaged in tho Makirikiri- Hack Handicap at Dannevirke to-day, a very interesting race should result.

Special interest will attach to the running of Bonny Boy in the Dannevirko Cup'to-day, - for, prior to tho Woodville meeting, he badly defeated Bronze in 'a gallop on the Awapuni plough, but subsequently shaped -poorly in' the' Woodville Cup, while Bronzo gave a most attractive display lit Wanganui. That Bonny Boy'a first day's showing at Woodville was all wrong hp.proved next day by running a good second to Ariom. Somebody evidently expects him to run well, for W. Bell to-day for he figures at a very short prico in doubles coupled with Crown Pearl. FIXTURES. March 5 and 6—Dannevirke R.C. Autumn. March. 12 and 13—Southland E.C. Autumn.
