. . CRec. Marchj .4,- 8.50 p.m.)./ . , Melbourne, March i. At Flemington to-day the V.R.C. autumn .meeting was continued. The club Was again fortunate regarding tho weather which was beautifully fine with a cool breeze... .Ladies' formed a>,vory large portion of tho crowd. A noticeablej feature was that instead of autumn fashions, as might bo expected, tho dressing .rather Tesembled a spring .meeting. From tho spectators,' point of, view, the Australian Cup was a better race to watch than the Melbourne Cup. There were fewer runners and tho norses were easier to pick out '.while going. Several .of the State Government House parties were among the visitors. Light showers fell during the afternoon, but not sufficient to inter- ■ f.erb .with the racing., Doubtless scared by the easy manner In which Lord Desmond accomplished Saturday's task, owners scratched freely in the Hurdles. Only four started. Tho weight evidently told on Lord Desmond, Who never at any stage headed the field. The Ascot Vale Stakes:was interesting ■ in the light of Caulfield running. Tho winner, Andelosia, whose dam Diffidence ha 9 a Sydney Cup to her cre'dit,. is it stable companion of Eubolus. He got off smartly , on the outside, of the field and was never headed, though Quair Burn , made a fine race of it, and appeared to the onlookers to have won. Almissa had been tho most talked-of horse for weeks' in connection with tho Cup M He has been steadily : improving Bince-the Williamstown Cud last year, but his running on Saturday in the Es: Eondon Stakes, coupled lvith, Piastre's fine performance, put him out of consideration. To-day..he ran a really fine-race, steered by ,w.-H. M'Lachlan, though the time for the journey, was the' slowest mace.'l9o/.; Once, again Golden Point ran disappointingly. Saturday's performance When he ran fourth with 9st„-led his'ad- • rovers to believe that with a stone and a half less ho would have made a good Bhowing in the Cup, especially as he is ft known stayer,- with, fast track performances. , But he proves unreliable. It transpires that Almissa's bad performance on Saturday was due to the horse getting; his muzzlo off 1 on Friday Sight and eating his betiding. He started .unwell in consequence, Results were {is follow: — \ y !4UTUMN HURDLE RACE, of 300 sovs. u - Throe miles. ' 9st 81bif°'d' 3 °' 1 ' °' ® Coo " e<!
