RAILWAY ROUTES.
THE HON. W. TEASER'S TOURS.
Tho Minister for public Works, tho lion, W. Fraser, has just retufned to Wellington after a tour of inspection of the proposed routes of certain projected railways in Otago and Southland. In the western' district of Southland he looked over the routes for the proposed railway to OiQwiaj oil the eastern bank of tho Waiau, River. Ono proposal is to extend the line from Orepuki, beyond the present ■terminus at Tuatapero to Orawia, and tho other is to lay the lino from Otautau westwards. Air. Eraser also looked over the two routes for the suggested Heddon Bush railway, one Irom wmton, and one from Wright's Bush, on the 111-veroargill-llivortflii line. He also looked over both the northern and the.southern ends of the Catlins railway, and also ovoi' tho district over which thoso branches, for it is generally admitted now that they will never be linked up, may yot bo'extended. .
The, Minister informed a DosHnioi>; reporter yesterday that he hud come to 110 decisions concerning theso propos:d lines, nor would he express, any opinion as to whether any of them wore likely to ho built soon. . '
On Saturday Mr. Fraser will leave foi Gisborno, where ho will spend a elay ot two, during, which time lie will look over-tho line of'the Gisborn<hMotu railway. l ? rom there,lis will go to Auckland and straight oil to Whangarei by steamer, lie will go from Whangarei to lCawa Kawa, ..and thence down the new line ■ to Kaik'ohe,. pnd from there to llokianga. After this he may go to Mongonui, or.lie' may return via Dargaville. 111 April next Hi'. Fraser intends lo visit tho West Coast, and especially tho Otira tunnel 'wonts.
