— ; ♦: r ' ON DEFENCE MATTERS. (By Tolecraph —Pross Association.) Christchurch, March 3. In the courso of a sermon last night the Rev. J. J. North declared tho Litest order of tho Education Department in regard to compliance by freo place and scholarship holders with tho Defence Act was a revival of tho Test Act. Mr. North said ho was' not opposed, to the Act, which ho hoped would secure these islands, and develop tho ■ lie had never heard of anything so wrongheaded, so calculated to inflict lasting injury on the country.
