EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Education Board met yesterday afternoon, Mr. Robert Leo presiding. Other members of tho board present -were Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken, A. W. Hogg, J., Kebbell; A. Allen, H. Freeman, and l\.\Moss. ( It was ' decided to agroe-to tho Southland Board's suggestion that the Wellington Board do not take teachers from Southland unless they had had at least ono year's experience in a school'in Southland. -. . It was decided to inform tho Johnsonville Committee that, owing to tho Education Department's action, tho board could hot authorise tho establishment of a woodwork and cookery centre there. • ■ The following grants for repairs and additions, <itc., to various' schools were authorised:~Taueru (repairs to roof,,etc.), £i; Island Bay (ventilation of classroom), ; Greytown (new gutters), J525; Mitchelltown (relaying, of drains). ,£10; Koro Koro (porch extension), .£4O; Porirua (residence liencing, range repair,, etc.; and school fencing, paths, formation, and various repairs), ,£3O; Te- Aro (mainschool, wirs screens, repairs,' etc.), .£l9 17s. Gd.; Kaiparoro (pipes,for water service), £$ <i«s; Tho clerk of works was authorised to make tho necessary arrangements for certain additions and alterations at tho Training College, owing to tho increase in the number of students. It was announced that Oliver Dudson, of the Carterton District High School, and Marjorio Thomas, ; Pahiatua' District High School, had been awarded "B" Rural Scholarships. Irens.N. Hushes had relinquished her Junior Scholarship. 'Hazel Rockell. a senior "B" fcbolar. was permitted to hold her scholarship at the New Plymouth Girls' Hieli School.' Agnes M. Moncrielt, junior national scholar, was granted a transfer from the Carterton District Hi;;h School to the Wellington Girls' College. The Department had declined to tigrro to the transfer of W.Terry, senior "A" scholar, to Canterbury College. ,' Next, month's meeting of the board will t>9 held A)n tho first Friday following Easter. 1 i ■ .......
