GAS CO.'S PICNIC.
■ - '• ! ♦ ' ' The Gas Company's picnic was hsld at Maidstone I'ark, ITnpcr Hutt, on Saturday last, when there was on attendance of nearly 500 employees and their trionds. The managing director (Mr. W. Ferguson), tho secretary (Mr. J. 11. Holliweil), and tho engineer (Mr, A. Dougall) wero also present. The- ovents resulted as follow:— ■> 100 Yards Kace— Welter, 1; Hook, 2, Threading . Needle Kace—Flowers, 1; Pettitt, 2. Singlo Women's Bacs—Miss Davis, 1; Miss Adauie, 2. .
Boot Raw—Hook, 1; Boden, 2. Men's Race (over &>)— Green, 1; Gadd, 2. Women's Race—Mrs, Maun, If Mrs. Holdeu, 2. ; 220 Yards Handicap—Boniface, 1; Belling, 2. Bgg-and-spoon 1; Smyth, 2. ■ ' \ Bun Competition—A. Campbell, 1; J. Campbell, 2. \ Tug of War—Miramaf team. 1; Mainlayers. 2. ;' . Ladles' Guessing Competition—Mrs. Day, 1.
