.'.':' ■ ■, ■♦-^ — -::'.. ■ SATISFACTORY ATTENDANCE. . The'sth Regiment are settling down to camp life ana hard' work at Trentham. Tiie, attendance is' good, considering the time-.of.tho year (| and, the inability for some to leave their, civilian duties. , So far the work, done has of course been moro or less elementary, but as the bonds of discipline grow tighter, the work .will be more advanced and therefore more interesting. ' ■■ The gunloss "D" Battery and their mules are on the march from Trentham to Wnikanae and back. They, are travelling under modified service conditions. The Garrison Artillery ; are fortunate in having 253 men out of a total strength of 287 in camp at the three forts. The whole of the command (Col. F. Campbell's) will be inspected by the O.C. District Colonel, E. W. C. Chaytor, to-day. The G.O.C. will inspect on Friday next, by'whM time the men should be used to the, "carriage of arms," _ Instructional service practice was carried out at Forts Kelburne, Ballance, and Dorset by the Territorial gunners yesterday, every battery from the 6-inch guns' to the G-pounder quick-firers being engaged at a moving'target. A hirh wind and choppy sea made things diffioult and uncomfortable for tho gunners and especially for the range party. Nevertheless, the snooting was" good. Weather permitting, similar practice will.be carried oat daily until Friday. ( The total muster of the Fifth Infantry Regiment now under canvas at .Trentham numbers 570 of all ranks.
