TRAMWAY FINANCE.
CREDIT BALANCE, NEARLY £8000 FOR TEN MONTHS ' The Tramway Board of Management may fairly take credit for having placed tho city tramways on, what promises to bo a solid ba6o, Its recommendations have had the effect of increasing tho revenue in quite a substantial manner, and there is every reason to believe that the tCIO.OOO credit balance, estimated by tho chairman of tho board (Mr, W. 11. Morton), will bo realised by the end of tho finaucial .year. So far in tho ten months gone, there is a credit of X 7079 to tramways revenue, and .£BB2 for power, making a total of .£7061 for the ton months ended January 31, as compared with .£2960 for tho corresponding period of last year. Tho figures as presented in tho board's roport to the Power Stations and Tramways Committee yesterday are as follow:— . Tho total passengers carried to date amounts to 19,911,702. i! "Car mi]es run—Tho car miles,run for the four weeks totalled 176,49i|, an increase of 2799 car miles on' previous four weeks. This makes a total mileage j run to date of 1,915,155 oar miles. j' . • "Revenue per car mile.—Tho total revenue per oar mile for the 'four weeks averaged 17,93 d., or ,27d. loss than the previous period. Tlio averago revenue to date is 15.57 d. or .92d. more than ltat year. "Expenditure per car mile'.—Tho working expenses for the four w<eks averaged IOTTSd;, or .63d. more than Jin tho previous four weeks.
