\ — 6— . v.-' THE DUTHIE CUP. Wellington and Hutt bowlers visited Wanganui on Thursday (says Friday's Wanganui "Chronicle"), when the annual contest for the Dnthie cup took place. Mr. Johh Duthio journeyed from Wellington to witness tho games, and witli the visiting teams wa3 entertained at lunch at Foster's Hotel by the WanganniUub. In tho absenco of the club's president, Mr. W. Rodwell, vice-president, welcomed the'players, and tho usual complimentary speeches were made. Stevens (Hutt), 23; Rankin (Wanganui), 21; Hendry (Hutt), 16; London (Wanganui), 20. . Rankin, in the second to last head, by playing nn excellent shot, secured 7iu» on his opponents, making all. In tho two succeeding heads Stevens scored-1 on each and finished as above. London's game was steady throughout, at one point of the game only was he behind (13 to 1G), but from then gradually improved his position. . - , ( Wanganui v. Wellington. The play throughout was of a very high standard, not only with tho skips (who excelled themselves), but with every Individual member of the respective tenuis. Webb, in tho 17th head, by a magnificent shot, obtained 4 up, and thus obtained a lead of G on London. On tlie 18th head Webb was 21 and London 14,' tho light at this period of tho game being anything but favourable for tho players. On tho 20th head Wanganui did not improve their position, Wellington getting 'another' 3 on to their total, making the scores: Wei- . lington 20, Wanganui 14. Tho final head was keenly contested, Wanganui getting 2 up, tho scores being! AVellington 2G, Wanganui 10. On the 20th head Ranltin
had a lend of 3. The final head was most exciting, Rankin lying 3 after his third had played, Moult having the first shot, which ho drove, cutting out 2 from his opponent. Rankin's first bnwl went wide. Moult in his last bowl did not alter th» position, Rankin in his final shot altered the position and scored .1 nn. Thus Wanganui lost tho gnme by C points, Wellington winning on tho aggregate by 4 points.
