NOTES AND COMMENTS. [By. Glencoe.] Kauroa ran well enough in the flat evonts at, Egmont and New Plymouth to suggest, that, if ho.is started in tho hack hurdles at Woodville, tho opposition will get a particularly warm timo. The locally-owned Sea Queen contracted a very bad attack of. strangles while on tho Tnrannki trip, and was unablo to start at tho meeting. Sho is being railed home to-day. Tho Taranaki stewards met on Thursday evening to further consider tho complaint of Starter O'Connor against Owner Laurent for using certain language to the startor's assistant, but after hearing tho evidenoo it was dcoided to take no action. The two light-weight jockeys, C. Emorson and W. Bell, both of whom have boon having a lucky run for somo time, got on the winning list again at Taranaki and increased their totala by two wins and threo wins respectively. B. Deeley has been having an exasperating run of bad luck, but ho also steered a couplo of winners at the New Plymouth gathering. A. Oliver was offered the mount on Whinz in the Dunedin Champagne Stakes, but ho'is not going to the meeting, and L. Wilson will probably havo tho mount. Heatherbrao will not be a runner at Dunedin. Winning Way will carry tho colours of Sir Geo. Clifford in the Publicans' Handicap. H. Ciitts. with Autumnns, who is engaged in the Flying and Jackson Stakes, arrived at Wanganui yesterday afternoon. Masterpiece, who will represent the stablo in tho Cupy was sent to Wanganui at the conclusion of tho Egmont meeting. Royal Marine. Uproar, and A who, havo already arrived at Nelson for the race meeting there next month. •
W. Bell has been.engaged to ride Montreal in the Woodvillo Cup next week. Ermengarde is again a regular attendant at tho Awapuni tracks, and may bo regarded as a startor ■ in the Wanganui Flying Handicap. She will bo ridden by W. Bel], while A. Oliver will have tho mount on Crown Pearl. The latter was not started at tho Egmont or Taranaki meetings. Distinction is an acceptor at Woodville, so apparently tho Daunt gelding is not to go to Wingatui to racc.St. Luap created a big surprise when ho finished second to Min6ra at Taranaki on Thursday. He is trained by T. p-WHto at Normanby, who has some half dozen horses in his stables. '•.?• Jon es 's to ride Mira in tho Dunt to ■?' Tlle Rrey UorEe . in charge of J. W. Lowe, was shippod south by tho iUon last evening. _ Jockeys R. Berry, C. Emerson, and L. Wilson were passengers for Lyttelton last evening. Ihe trio are on.their way to Dunedin. , Nominations for tho Opunake Racing Uubs annual meeting oloso on Monday « , •,, £ ******* ia to 1» held on. St. Patricks Day. ■ Mr. E. J, Watt left for. Sydney yesterday afternoon. C. Pritchard liß9 now i fifteen horses in his stable at Trentham. Four members of his team are being taken to tho Woodvilla meeting, viz., Cadonia, Sir Moutoa, and tho jumpers Gay Lawloss and Kuutsford. Two yearlings were shipped to Sydney by tho Uliinaron yesterday afternoon. Both are by the imported horse All Black, ono being a iilly from Blue River and tho other a colt from Kilindini. Both youngsters will bo placed undor the cure of A, liaynor nt Randwick, and will later on carry the colours of Mr. E. J. Watt. . W. H. Mackay, tho well-known jockey, who was some years ago connected with Mr. S. Mcssena's stable at Foiton,. has taken over tho Tauherinikau Hotel. Mackay, intends to continuo riding, and will probably undertake .. tho training of horses.."'.. -■ " ,' '. Acceptances.for. tho first day's events at tho Dannevirke Racing Club's autumn meeting are. duo on Tuesday. Acceptances for-the fiist day's events at the Wanganui Jockey Club's autumn meeting close on-Friday next. Tho subscription . for tho Jackson. Stakes is dlio at the same. time.
owner 3 of jumpers will be pleased to note that the hack steeplechases are still retained on tho programme for the Wellington Racing Club's autumn meeting. No doubt, some of tho 'chasers aro already being schooled for these events.
