MR. MASSEY AND THE DEPUTATION

SirJ —Jt is witli satisfaction that tho majority, of people in New Zealand will read of Mr. Masscy's handling of tho deputation from, tho Federation of Labour last week. Ono cantot but admire the firm, yet courteous, way in vjhich ho replied to their "wants, and tho fearless way in which.he reminded thorn, that "all" of tho resolutions passed at the conference had not been' riiontibned to him. Messrs. Sample and Co. evidently thought that having swallowed tho United Labour Partyi and. suffering from "swelled head" in consequence, it would bo a simple matter to frighten Mr. Masscy with veiled threats, but their rhetoric had'no more effect than waves beating on a'jock. As you rightly observe, in commenting on the matter, "The vast, 1 majority of the wageearners of Now Zealand distrust and dispiso it" (the federation). How could they do anything else, after tho "fiasco" at ■Wailii under ; their management? As a' wage-earner myself, I should have moro confidence .in following a straight-dealing, straight-speaking'-maiT'liko our Premier than some -of tho federation "bosses." Long may he continue to fill tho position to which, he is rightly entatlod.-I am, etc., A'. WATSON. Grcytown; February 3.
