TARANAKI OILFIELDS. (By Teleerauh.-Press Association.) Hew Plymouth, January 31. The first shipment of machinery for the' Taranaki Oil Lands Company is now being delivered on the site of the bore, about 150. yards from the Taranaki Oil Wells Company's No. 5 well, which is yielding oil. Tho plant is of the best and most modern type. The manager- expects to start drilling early 1n March next. Gas -has.been struck in • the" Itouuiki Oil/Wells Company's bores at Bell Block, indicating that 'the field extends several miles east of New Plymouth. ATJOKLAXD WOOL SALES. Auohland, January 31. At the seoond wool sale of tho seasonheld to-day, prices were, on an average, almost on a level with the high rates ruling_in November. A good clearance was ■ made, and thero was a good demand. Tho wool on the whole was heavier in grease than at tho flret' sale of the season. Hastings, January 31, Tho annual ram fair under the auspices of the Ilawlic'H Bay A., and P. Society concluded on tho showgrounds to-day. The attendance of buyers was large, and representative of tho whole North Island, but bidding in most cases was not brisk. Compared with previous years therp was a falllng-off in prices. Tho quality if the sheep both as regards flock and 6tud rams Wfl-S not up to last yoar'B standard, and prices correspondingly. A line of 276 flock Romncys-penned on behalf of Mr. E. Chrlstchurch, January "31. Somo new season's wheat is now offering, a number of samples from Culverdcn, Waikari, and Oraihi districts having been shown. Growers are holding out for 3s. 6d. at country stations, and s»vcral offers of 3s. 4d. have been refused. A few sales have, however, been mode at 3s. 3d. to 3s. 41d., according to quality and distance. Tho wheat is somewhat on the thin side, but it is otlipnviso of good quality, being firm and dry. There are riot many oats offering, n6 little threshing has been doiio during tho weehj In consequence of the rains sonic of the samples of Duns offering aro very light, arid do not command more than Is.
