CHARGE OF PERJURY.

At the'-Magistrate's Court this afternoon,- Walter Edmund Harvey, on remand, was charged,, on the. information of Detcctivp' Sweeney, with committing; perjury, at tho inquest touching the, death of 'Frederick "Goorgo Evans, held on December 13 at Waihi, in that he swore on oath: (1) That ho never carried a revolver in New JCealand; (2) that lie did not present a. revolver at. ono. of six persons at Karangahnko on November 10j and, (3) that ho did • liot- say on that occasion, "All right, Bill;-I'vp got you covert," or any words to that effect, Mr. Jackson represented the accused. -•'•'.-.
Sergeant Wbhlniann' briefly stated . the circumstances of the case, and said that the charge was. laid, under Section 130 of the Crimes-Act. •.'•.;:. .':.,.. ■ , ■.■■.
' The first witness-was tho District Coroner, Mr. IV. M. Wnllnutt.
