At Stanley Falls Ifr. Taite and Ms companion had a raft constructed.to -carry thorn down the Congo ttiver. On "the voyago to Lcoppldsville the raft was capsized by hippopotami, and two of tho natives wore eaten, by crocodiles Wore they, could reach: the shore. Three others were drowned.

Their .last negro; according to Mr. Taito,.was seized by a big gorilla in a. fight when they were half-way down tho and after being stablicd (he.animal disappeared, dragging the wounded roan away under his'arm into the junclc. Mr. Taite and his companions were'finally resound "from their ''dangerous ■surroundings by a party of Belgian rubber hunters near Leopoldsvillo.
