Coplcston, whose approaching resignation of:the Bishopric of Calcutta is announced, belongs to an episcopal family, being a nephew of Dr. Coplcston, tho famoiw Provost of Oriel, who held, the See of Llandnff in plurality %vith tho dcniiery of St. Paul's, and brother to the present Bishop of Colombo. When selected by Lord Salisbury for the Indian episcopate, ho was some months short of thirty, and his consecration had to bo postponed until he reached the canonical age. Soon nftcr his appointment to the See of Colombo ho voluntarily undertook the disestablishment of the Anglican Church in Ceylon. Bishop Coplcston has published a book on "Buddhism," which is by for t)io most lucid and accurate work on that tangled topic, nnd has 'run through several editions.—"Westminster Gazette."
