CRICKET. TROTT &, HIS TEAM HERE. MATCH COMMENCED. AGAINST MID-WEEK ELEVEN. Trott's South .Melbourne team of cricketers commenced a match on the Basin Reserve yesterday against a team representing the Wellington Wednesday' Association. The match had not progressed far when, rain necessitated a postponement, The teams were as follow;— ~:■. Wellington—E. O. Blamires, C. G. Wilson, L. M'Kenzie, J. Gourlay, P. Alpe, C. Jl'Gill, V. Harris, W. Warne, A. 1 A. George, W. Mills, and D. M'lntyre. booth Melbourne—J. Baragwnnath, W. H. Jl'Cormack, J. Gillcr, A. Kenny, W. hcott, 11. Kelly, S. Sykes, R. Deas, J. Kyle, T. Purvis, and A. Gray. Wellington won the toss nnd elected to bat, They sent C: G. Wilson and Warne Op the ivickets, and the former took strike to■ Kenny, wh) bowled from tho north end. Wilson mishit the first ball of the match, and gave-a chance, which tho wicket-keener could not quite reach. The over yielded one. Scott was put on to bowl from thu south end, and Warne, shaping nicely, got three off bis first over. Half-way through the next over (from Kenny) the players left the field on account of the-lain. The score was then 6.
After an hour's adjournment play was resumed. Wilson had another "life" off Kenny; the wicket-keeper again failed'to hold him. Warne was splendidly caught by Purvis, off Scott. Purvis was fielding at second slip, nnd the catch was taken low down. Ten went up for twenty minutes', play. ''...■' Blamires replaced Warne, and hit a couplo off Scott's-last ball of his third oyer. A few balls later Blamires got' Kenny through the slins for four—a fine stroke. Wilson brought 30 up for thirty. minutes' play by sending Kenny 'to the boundary for fdur. Wilson soon found the boundary again, off Scott, and 40 went, up for 35 minutes' play. 'With.the total at 45, Wilson was caught by Gray at third man from, a half-pitclver. Eighty went up for air hour's play,'nnd then M'Gill w?.s clean bowled by Kyle. The retiring batsmen-had knocked up 23 rnther flukily. - ■ Harris came, and, after a dull stay at the wickets, re-entered the pavilion without scoring, pour wickets were down for 88. Gourlay, on going in, immediately brightened up the. running between wickets. ,
AVith the total at 91 rain was once more the cause of a cessation of play, and after some: delay it was decided to adjourn play till noon to-day. ■
