MASTERTON NOTES.

(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Masterton, January 19. The Masterton Competitions Sooiety has added a class for Maori choirs to the syllabus for the next competitions, Mr. Tai Te Tau having donated a challenge cup. The Masterten Horticultural Society has decided to allow nurserymen to compete in.the open classes at future shows. One or two small grass fires occurred to-day, but were suppressed before much damage was done. No rain has fallen for eighteen days, and the country i 9 parched and dry. Streams in many parts have dried up.
