The Admiralty is detaching the cruiser battleship Now Zealand from Rear-ad-miral Bayly's first cruiser squadron, at the end of January, to show her flag in the waters of the overseas dominions. The warship will be under the command 'of Captain Lionel Halsey, who had charge of-.the.'naval gun at the siege of Ladysmith. The New Zealand's executive officer is Commander' Henry Grace (the famous cricketer's son).
The' Now -Zealand calls at Saint Vincent, Ascension, Saint Helena, Simon's Bay, Hobart, and Lyttelton, spending two or three months in New Zealand ports. Naval parties will visit the chief-inland towns. The warship may call at the West Indies on tho return, journey, and possibly Canada.
