P"®' a vel 7 ev en position being established up to the twentieth move ' through Blacks king-sido pieces being sadly undeveloped. Au advance of White's ' ■'! Jung-side pawns left his bishop, pinned i \m -!; 011 i n ? noiv . unsupported .queen, -j Uhite, to improve his pawn position, cx- i changed queens, and quickly brought his ! rooks and knights into play,-but Black, j staved off the attack, and, with his dan- ; geroiis extra bishop, still further weaken- ; ed the game for White, who' therefore re- ! signed. Mason'v. .Tames—The champion opened i with Quers Bishop's Gambit* which James ' declined. The game then developed oh I well-known lines -until, through the mediunr of a pawn exchanged by Black ' about the tenth movo, White's central -! pawns became well, posted with the bish- ■! ops, at long range, bearing upon ! kings position.
